Dear All,

As someone who has dealt with high security areas and agencies bent on keeping everything secure, I can tell you that you never ever want to appear as if you are trying to hide anything from them on purpose.
If you do, the consequences can be very bad.
If you are carrying a stylist for your slate, tie them together with a piece of elastic string. I have done this with all of my slates and I have never had a problem. I have been asked what it is and what is it used for, but as I was not trying to hide them and could explain what they were used for and the fact that they were tied together settled the issue with security.
Someone who has never seen a slate and stylist, that pointy thing could look and be very dangerous and if you appear to be trying to hide it could be deemed suspicious. Once suspicion settles on you, you are going to be in for a hard time explaining and any goodwill and slack from the inspector is
going to be gone. They will not care if you miss your flight, nor should
they. They are not there to make sure that you have a pleasant trip. They are there to ensure security and safety at the airport and on board the planes. They have allot of people to handle and they don't come with signs on them as to who are the good people and who are the bad ones. Don't make it harder for them and don't make yourself stand out and you should be just fine. That is my take on it all, what you do is up to you.

David Evans, NFBF and GD Jack.
