[nfb-talk] Jimmy Kimmel Video--Blind Ref

You know, I always start trouble. I sent this out because people on other
disability lists were complaining quite vociferously about the video. My
opinion? I can't really give a fair one because I can't see the video. I
think it may have been a spoof on refs more than a spoof on blind people.
It's funny, because a group of NFBF people were at a Tampa Rays game a few
weeks ago and the calls the umpires were making were really bad and someone
in the group said, "I think the umpires are volunteers from the NFB. So
without actually seeing the video, I can't really judge.

Absurd it may well be: nevertheless, I maintain that it's an oportunity to
discuss a serious point. Let me phrase the question about as bluntly as I
can. Do we really believe we are normal or do we not. IF so, why can we
not maintain a balance between something which is not funny and deserves our
attack and something truly funny and laugh at it? To speak candidly, I sort
of suspect at times that we have a problem with that. But, what say the
group members here? Oh, one vitally important thing. Please, no personal
attacks on this. I'm not out to attack anyone or to respond to personal
attacks. I'd like us to really explore this because I kind of suspect that
maybe we should. IF this dies, it dies; still, what say y'all?
