[nfb-talk] Betsy Devos

Good afternoon everyone,

For your information Betsy Devos is the wife of Dick Devos whose father Rich along with his high school buddy Jay Vanandel formed one of the World's most successful direct sales companies in the world. The company has been around for over 50 years and operates here in the states and in many foreign countries. These people have done much in the field of education and believe in accessibility. I have personally worked with the company in question along with one of its teams to insure that its Web and mobile resources are usable by the blind and have gotten nothing but cooperation from them. Mary and I personally met Dick Devos in 1997 and brought some accessibility issues to his attention. They were fixed several months later.

The Devos family knows something about the abilities and capabilities of the blind. Several blind entrepreneurs here in the United States and in South America have built phenominal businesses through their direct marketing system. Having married into such a legacy I'm sure Betsy Devos knows something about accessibility and will work with the disabled community to insure that educational resources are usable by persons with all disabilities including the blind.

I don't post often at all but somehow feel compelled to say something now.

The election and inauguration are over. It's time to get to work. The first real threat to us as blind people is the current nominee for secretary of education. If you want to channel your frustration into something positive, I would urge everyone to contact the senators who are on the HELP Committee which has jurisdiction over the nomination. At the rights of our blind children and consumers of vocational rehabilitation are at stake.
Unfortunately, due to the lack of accessibility of my Hotmail account, I cannot post the names and phone numbers here but trust that you all can do a Google search and follow up.

Best,
Latonya Phipps
TLC Chapter President

> Well, I don't know how old you are, but Mr. Carter was not really a good president. He was a nice man, but a bad president. Bill was a decent president, but kind of a slimey guy, and Obama, in my opinion, would have been a good president if he had been allowed. He was stopped at every turn from doing anything worth while by those who refused to see past the nose on their own face. I remember when the government shut down a few years ago, it was mainly over the "Affordable Care Act" and the budget. Congress fussed and fought and changed the Affordable Care act until it became what it is today. They wanted to be sure that it was crappy enough so that when people remember they'll say That Obama Care... etc, etc. If the original bill had passed, and congress wasn't so egotistical and selfish, we'd be in a better place.
> The new president however did not have to be a democrat. We had good choices. We had good decent, worth while republican choices, but America did not vote them in in the primaries. They wanted shock and entertainment.
