The idea that the free press can't be trusted is bullstuffpromoted by 
people who don't like the truth. And it's Un-American bullstuff at that. 
Democracy cannot work without a free press. When you tell people they 
can't trust the free press, you're telling them that they can't possibly 
have any way to know which way to vote. That's Un-American.

This is just a myth fostered by conservatives  who think anybody who 
doesn't automatically agree with them is a liberal. If you insist on 
actually having facts before making up your mind, that makes you a liberal.
