Never had a probblem with the parents. Had one with friends though. I
remember one time, I was supposed to stay with a friend and the next day go
swimming in Lake Michigan. They took my younger brother and told me I
couldn't go because they were worried that I couldn't swim! Grandma lived on
a lake and I not my brother was swimming and winning in competition! How
strange!

You were very fortunate. My mother allowed people to come to our house, but
I was not allowed to go anywhere overnight until I was much older, like
highschool. Even then, it was the family of another blind friend. I did not
really have a lot of friends growing up because everyone could see how my
family was and did not want any part of it. Fortunately, something inside of
me drove me out of that situation and out on to my own early. So many blind
kids don't have that same experience and they stay under their family's
control forever. Family's generally mean well, but they don't realize the
harm they do.
