Google and Apple use lidar but Tesla does not. But, yeah, you're right 
to suggest that the device probably uses lidar. I should have thought of 
that myself. It's just that I know somebody who owns a Tesla and I'm 
thinking like him. I've never seen a google or apple driverless car.
