Now that Convention is over I encourage you all to put on your thinking caps, if you haven’t already. What could you do? Are you a good braille reader? Reading a Kernal book or a child’s story would be fantastic but remember, it doesn’t have to be something big. If you want to tell a joke or two, that would be fantastic as well. If you really want to just stay behind the scenes, you will still be invaluable to us. We need everybody. We need everybody in every concept. I’m sure we will all be talking soon and I know I am looking forward to hearing how you would like to take part to help us build the Federation, at least here in Phoenix.

>> Hello Phoenix Federationists, the fundraising committee has been brainstorming and has come up with an event for our chapter and Meet the Blind Month. The only way this will be successful though is with everyone's participation. We welcome all input from each of you.
>> What we are planning is a telethon of sorts for October 24. We will have approximately four hours worth of programming with a live MC and volunteers who will be taking pledges from individuals via various means such as telephone, text, messenger and email. For every five dollars pledged the person will be entered into a drawing for a grand prize at the end. The programming will be such to find interest for all ages and we hope to advertise this wide and far so it will not just be dependent on pledges from our own chapter members.
>> For the programming, this is the first area we will need each of you. What can you do? Would you like to read a story? Perhaps a kernel book? Can you teach how to do something such as origami or a recipe? Maybe you play goal ball or beep ball or are a tandem cyclist, these are all things that will be of interest to others.
>> We will likely be having people outside of the blind community listening as well because we are going to have sponsored support from local businesses which will bring in more listeners and hopefully more pledges. If you would like to do a segment, it could be as short as a couple of minutes or if it's really something huge, as long as 30 minutes. It can also be broken up into multiple segments. You could work with others. We believe we have some singers that are getting together but that does not mean we cannot take more. And if you play an instrument, we would love your talent.
>> We don't need your answers right now but start thinking about it. Start talking to friends if you want to collaborate. And if you want to discuss your ideas or if you're set on anything particular, reach out to one of the fundraising committee members. We are Brad Kuhn, Mike Smith, Betty Love, Monica Muniz, Kim Parks, Rodney Fletcher and Eve Sanchez. We can't wait to hear your ideas and again, we cannot stress this too much but this will only be successful with everyone's participation. This is not something for us, the fundraising committee, this is for the Phoenix chapter of the national Federation of the blind.
