JOB DESCRIPTION:

 

The Senior Service Specialist for the Blind 1 will support the mission,
vision and philosophy of the Iowa Department for the Blind. This position
will serve the independent living and older blind program. 

 

DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. Facilitate the completion of the program application process.

  2. Ability to interpret medical reports and other eligibility criteria.

  3. Complete eligibility documentation in accordance with the federal
standard.

  4. Experience with conducting skills assessments.

  5. Develop and implement a rehabilitation plan in partnership with the
client.

  6. Demonstrate and provide instruction concerning the use of adaptive
devices.

  7. Provide guidance and counseling and teach alternative techniques of
blindness.

  8. Perform case management and other case load duties.

  9. Participate in senior orientation and community-based training
activities for the 

      independent living program.

10. Provide agency and program information to the public.

11.  Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.

12. Travel three to four days per week with some overnight stays, serving
Benton, Iowa, Linn, Johnson, Jones, Cedar, Muscatine, Clinton and Scott
counties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:                                     

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in human
service-oriented sciences, education, marketing or business and experience
equal to three years of full time professional work.
