Subject: seeking support and help from individuals who have guide dogs

Greetings,

About a month ago a guide dog was attacked on Lightrail. The attacking dog was a Pitbull, and it was a fake service animal. The guide was injured and had to seek medical attention.

To top it all off, the RT police LT Lisa and the Sac PD did not fine this individual under the current guide dog protections penal codes. Several of us went to the RT Board meeting to state our concerns. Now the topic is being pushed back to the MAC for RT. We are still wanting to get the topic on the Jan. meeting of the RT Board.

If you use RT, Light rail, or even para transit, we are all at risk of having our dogs attacked. I hope all of you will show up to the MAC meeting on Dec. 7, from 2:30 to 4:30. Please understand that none of us are exempt from having our dogs attacked because of all the fake service animals. RT has a current policy not to ask if it is a service animal.

Clearly they know nothing about the laws as they did not follow them. LT Lisa stated she could not site the individual because she did not witness the incident. This is simply crap. The law doesn't state that an officer needs to witness the incident. They had a video which they keep for only three days and LT Lisa did not view them. Nor did she ask for witnesses on the train. The Sac PD did nothing as well.

This is the battle of all dog handlers, so please feel free to pass it on.
We heed many handlers at the meeting. By the way, the meeting is at RT's 29th street building.

Please do not think for a second that if you only use paratransit that you are exempt, because you are not at all.

If you have any questions, please call me at 293 9505.

Thanks much,

Margie
