Description: The Office for the Blind empowers individuals who are blind or
visually impaired to maximize employment, achieve economic self-sufficiency
and independence, and to contribute back to society. We also help businesses
and employers recruit, retain and accommodate employees with visual
impairments or blindness. We are seeking a compassionate and motivated
vocational rehabilitation professional to be a part of that mission to
enrich lives. We are seeking a Voc Rehab Program Specialist II to perform
independent professional and vocational functions for consumers at the
Charles McDowell Rehabilitation Center in Jefferson County.

The duties of this position: Serves as the intake coordinator for the
Charles McDowell Center facility by coordinating the intake and scheduling
of the students referred by agency staff to the Center for rehabilitative
services. . Communicates with multiple parties in coordination and planning
of individual training schedules and master class schedules for the entire
facility. . Serves on the multiple committees to track and review progress
and assess any issues that may impact training and develop plans that
address any barriers to training needs . Provides information on community
resources and counseling to consumers in regards to vocational services,
daily living skills, personal adjustment and transportation. . Reviews
medical documentation to assist in the evaluation of consumer referrals. .
Attends all consumer-staffing conferences to provide critical information
and consultation to the consumer and their Voc Rehab Counselor. . Works to
provide information to consumers concerning individual responsibilities and
terms for services.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: The successful candidate for this
position will have professional vocational rehabilitation experience and
strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. A strong
knowledge of community resources and a passion for helping others is highly
preferred. 

Minimum Requirements 

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a master's degree in
rehabilitation, rehabilitation teaching or therapy, guidance and/or
counseling, psychology, sociology, orientation and mobility, social work,
special education, education with emphasis in vocational counseling or a
related field.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Two years of professional experience in
vocational rehabilitation, vocational assessment, employer relations, or
rehabilitation technology, or requisite skills. The experience, training, or
skills requirement cannot be met with only requisite skills.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: A bachelor's degree in one of the above
areas plus two years of professional experience in vocational
rehabilitation, vocational assessment, employer relations or rehabilitation
technology will substitute for the required master's degree.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE

Working Condition: Work is performed primarily in an office setting.
Occasional travel will be required to coordinate services between customers
and the agency. 

Probationary Period: This job has an initial and promotional probationary
