[Nfbc-info] Amazon issue

	hello Lisa. What you got back was that no one in the state of
California was working directly with Amazon -- at least, no one who is
willing to talk. My suggestion is to call Anil Lewis in the NFB national
office and ask him who from our national office is working with Amazon.
Then, you can work directly with that person to get your letter inserted
into the stream of discussions with Amazon. The telephone number for our
national office is: 410-659-9314. You can dial by name by pressing # at
the menu and then dial the first three digits of Anil's last name.

Hope that helps.
-thanks

}
} Hi,
}
} This is going to be controversial.
}
}
}
} This is what I have observed through the years:
}
}
}
} On one hand, some blind people say that Amazon (or whatever else) isn't
} working right when the fact is, they are using an older program, like XP, or
} an older version of a browser, such as Internet Explorer. So their
} difficulties come from not upgrading their computer or from not upgrading
} their computer training.
}
}
}
} Especially if they are newly blind, they can use those problems as "reasons"
} for how they can't do this or that anymore because they're blind and ain't
} it awful.
}
}
}
} In either case, they are stuck in the past. And, as techy things go, the
} "past" can be not that long ago. So the lack of upgrading can sometimes not
} be their fault.
}
}
}
} On the other hand, some blind people say that Amazon, eBay etc, work fine
} for them without admitting they don't really use them much or they have help
} from someone, neglecting to include that info.
}
}
}
} It is similar to some blind people saying they don't get lost, when the fact
} is that they stay home a lot or have someone helping them most of the time
} but they don't provide that extra info.
}
}
}
} So then it looks like they are showing themselves to be more capable and
} independent than they (or we) really are.
}
}
}
} This is for real. I've had these situations happen numerous times with some
} blind people I have come across. Most of such people are not in the NFB but
} some are.
}
}
}
} Anyway, some blind people, like any other group of people, are more or less
} informed than they admit. Some are honest and some are not. So these are
} considerations we need to take into account.
}
} Thanks,
}
} Lauren
