VIRTUAL “WHITE CANE AWARENESS” and ”Meet the Blind” Month Activities 2020
Dear Friends:

The San Joaquin County Chapter, National Federation of the Blind (NFB) of California, in partnership with the Stockton-San Joaquin Lions Club invites you to join us again in celebrating White Cane Awareness Day and “Meet the Blind” Month virtually this year! The pandemic has put a damper on our usual White Cane Awareness Walk & Celebration, centered around White CanE Awareness Day, October 15. Since we can’t still stream down the streets of Stockton in solidarity with our supporters, we are fixing to flood Facebook and Twitter with images of white canes and our positive message of blindness! Please join us in getting the “White Cane” word out and safely supporting our campaign and fundraisers this fall!

October 1-15: “Virtual White Cane Walk”

Our NFB members and supporters will share videos and photos of themselves with white canes on our @BlindOfSJC Facebook and Twitter accounts. If you prefer, please email us photos or videos you would like posted. All posts in October related to “Virtual White Cane Walk” and our chapter’s “Meet the Blind Month activities should include the hashtags #SJCNFBWalk20 and #MeetTheBlind, thank you!

October 1-31: “Courtesy Rules of Blindness”

Please share the attached document, “Courtesy Rules of Blindness”, with your contacts to help spread awareness of the blind and visually impaired during the month of October— “Meet the Blind” Month. The ”Courtesy Rules of Blindness” Will be distributed in print and electronic “Multicultural COVID-19 Resource Kits” throughout San Joaquin County on October 1&2, 2020, as part of Community Partnership for Families of San Joaquin’s Virtual 12th Annual Multicultural Health + Resource Fair.

October 15: “White Cane Awareness Day” Profile Photo Swap Campaign

Our chapter is asking our members, our families, friends Lions and other supporters of the blind to swap out their social media profile pictures all day October 15 for a photo of a white cane (attached to this message and provided soon on our Facebook and Twitter pages). Our hope is to spread white cane awareness by flooding timelines with images of the white cane on Oct. 15.
