California Federationists,

We've gotten three strong resolutions already from members. One deals with Department of Rehabilitation deprioritizing blind consumers, a second with need for braille or electronic braille on medications and a third about fixing the inaccessibility of some casino gaming machines. Great start.

You still have until Friday, February 27th to send me additional draft resolution copy. After that the Resolutions Committee will begin working with authors to finalize those resolutions that have arrived by our deadline. The committee members will help you finalize your ideas, but only if they get them in time.

So please take the time to help point our affiliate in the direction you want to do good in the world.

Details about the process and committee members below.

Kind regards,

Bryan Bashin
Resolutions Committee Chair

Fellow NFBC family,

It's that time of year again, the time when our California affiliate seeks to hear your voice in a very effective way - by working with our Resolutions Committee to produce good resolutions which can change the world. For new folks, this resolution process isn't just a mere formality. It is a hugely democratic way to get your best thoughts on how we can fix some injustice in the world. And then quickly embody those thoughts into formal NFBC policy. Once a resolution is approved by our full convention it will help guide our actions and priorities going forward.

President Elder has named the Resolutions Committee members for this year. Their names and email addresses are listed below.

Our ask right now is that you consider what injustice, what strange practice, what cultural or technological gaffe has driven you crazy over the last year. And man, what a year it has been. Now think of a proposal to fix, condemn, guide and encourage California institutions, businesses, governments and the like to do the right thing. That's the heart of any resolution. If you want some models of good past NFBC resolutions, they are up on the NFBC website.

Now reach out in the next few days to me directly, or to any of the Resolutions Committee members you might know already. Share your idea, and then share some draft language which is a starter for the resolution. It's not intimidating; all committee members are here to help you get your idea and then draft resolution into final form. The trick is to do it before our very hard deadline. All NFBC members must complete their draft resolutions by Saturday, February 28th at 5:00 pm Pacific time. That will give the committee the bare amount of time to do whatever tweaking and language cleanup that every resolution needs.

It should be a fun process. We all learn about the outrages and opportunities for blind people in California through resolution-building.

Finally, we will convene the Resolutions Committee at our Anaheim convention on Friday, March 13 at 6:00 pm, immediately following the NFBC Board meeting. All Federationists are encouraged to attend and participate in the first hearing of our resolutions.

Questions? Just write or call me, Bryan Bashin, at the contact info below, and I'll make sure you get what you need to author a resolution which will make a difference to blind Californians.

Yours,

Bryan
