Good evening,

I didn't quite understand your response.

I actually do not use gmail.  I just need to know if I can use the e-mail 
client on the phone to connect to my private mail server via smtp to port 
587.  Most ISPs and other networks will not let you connect out on the 
standard port for smtp (25 or 110 I forget now), port 587 is commonly used 
to connect to off-network smtp servers.
