[nfbcs] External disk drive

Hi guys.  I am having a problem, and I'm not sure what to do.  I have an
external disc drive with a USB connection.  When I turn it on, the
computer makes the USB on sound, but I don't see the drive under My
Computer.  When I go to System/Device Manager/Disc Drives, I see it, but
the Properties button is unavailable.  I tried the Populate button under
Volumes, but it didn't seem to do much.
I think perhaps I need to start over from scratch and re-add the drive,
but I don't know how to take it off first.  A friend says I can re-scan
for hardware, but I don't see where to do that.
Any ideas for how I can get this drive to show up under My Computer?  I am
running Windows XP Pro.
