[nfbcs] Logon prompt

Hello again Gary,

Pardon me if you've already discussed this before. Have you tried the

control userpasswords2 command from the run box in order to turn off the
control-alt-delete prompt and to turn off requiring a password for users
that log into your computer? There is a user tab and an advanced tab from
within this command line utility that should do this for you. If you've
already tried this, let me know and we can look at other stuff to resolve
it.

It is disabled but I am still prompted to enter a password. There is no
password but my account is listed as Gary. I am not seeing an option to
eliminate the password which might just let me logon without a prompt after
pressing the on button.

Gary

Hi Gary,

Since guest is a built-in account, I don't think you can delete it, but you
can disable it in group policy or via the account management facilities in
computer management I believe.

Take care,

Beth

It looks like I have two accounts - Gary and Guest. It is not obvious to me
how to delete Guest so there will be no choice. Thanks though. It gives me a
place to work.

I'll also look for that checkbox.

Gary

In XP, go to control panel, and then user accounts. Select the user account
you want and open it. Some where in there is the option for setting a
password. I am pretty sure that it is a check box and if un-checked it
ignores the password box. You probably have to restart for the changes to
take effect.

If that doesn't actually solve the problem, then check to see if you have
created other user accounts. If you have, then you have to delete those so
that you only have the one user account. Any time you have more than one, it
will always require you to select which user you want to use irregardless of
needing a password. For instance, my father's computer is setup with three
users, his and mine have passwords because we are administrators. My mothers
does not have a password but she still has to select her account when she
wants to use the computer.

If you are using Vista, I am not fluent in that but it should again be under
user accounts some where.

Good luck.

Cindy
