Hi Aaron Cannon,

The WordPress sites are very confusing.

For one thing, the Wordpress.org site says the first thing to do to create a WordPress website is to find a host. Um. That should be WordPress.

The WordPress.com site appears to just be blogs, and I found their blog nigh impossible to use many years ago. I really need a website, as I am a writer. Not a blog.

Hi.

I would encourage you to give WordPress a second look. In my previous
position, I used to do a lot of development work with WordPress for
various clients. It's an incredibly flexible platform, and the
developers have put a lot of effort into making it accessible. Also,
based on your description of what you are looking to do, WordPress
sounds perfect for you. Once it's setup, it allows you to just write,
and not worry about HTML, or most of the other technical stuff, unless
you want to.

For WordPress hosting, there's always http://wordpress.com/ or you can
host it yourself with the provider of your choice.

Also, to perhaps alleviate your confusion a bit, WordPress software
can either be hosted at wordpress.com, or it can be hosted somewhere
else. WordPress software is a free application that can be installed
on any host that supports it. If you go through WordPress.com, they
will run a copy of WordPress software for you. If, instead, you
choose another host, they will run WordPress software for you.

Finally, there are two web sites for WordPress. www.WordPress.com is
a site where you can get a hosted WordPress installation.
www.WordPress.org is a site where you can get information about
WordPress software, as well as download a copy.

Hopefully that helps, and didn't just confuse you further.

Let me know if anything is still unclear, or if you have any further questions.

Aaron

When I did design outside of Google, the web host was the host, and you didn't have a host and something else. I'm confused. When i login to Google Pages to work on my sites, it's all in one place.

I didn't like Wordpress's blog, and left it years ago, because it became too confusing, and was not viewable, or work with able for people with low vision.
