[nfbcs] flow mapping protocol?

Does a text-based flow mapping protocol exist those programming in python 
can use to document locations in source code of items of interest to 
programmers and maintainers of source code?
If so, what keyword searches would someone do with google to locate such a 
protocol?
A problem with google search is what it thinks is relevant often isn't and 
the search changes search strings sometimes to the detriment of the 
searcher.
