Hello Graham
The key with Microsoft office is to decide what programs you need. It includes Word, Excel, access, Outlook, and possibly others if you get the professional version.
  There is a plan that is a subscription-based version of office, but you can also buy it out right.
  The subscription is called Microsoft office 360. The other one is the traditional one time fee. The nice thing about the subscription is that you get updates and the cloud space. Nancy Coffman
