[nfbcs] Browsing tree of comments

This is a somewhat involved solution but it might work:

1. Enable the JAWS touch cursor with Shift+NumPadPlus, or the laptop layout equivalent, Shift+CapLock+Semicolon.

2. Toggle Advanced Navigation mode on using NumPad Star (the RightMouseButton key).

3. Use the four arrows to navigate the page structurally and see if you can find what you want that way.

You can turn advanced navigation mode off again with the same key you used to turn it on, and disable the touch cursor by pressing the PC
Cursor command twice, be it NumPad Plus or the laptop command, CapLock+Semicolon.

There is also a text review mode for controls containing a lot of text: Turn that on with NumPad Slash (the LeftMouseButton key) and off with Esc.

Hi everyone,

Many websites have tree-like structure of comments left by people. For
example, reddit, hacker news, and probably a lot more websites are
like this. Sometimes I would like to read some comments, but for
example I would like to read only the top-level comments, and not the
deeper levels, because that would be the replies to the top-level
comments, and they are typically not as interesting. Is there any way
to achieve this with a screen reader?

So, for example, I would like to have a key combination to jump to the
next same level comment. Right now I can only jump to the next comment
of any level by searching a keyword ("up vote" or something, that
appears next to every comment), and then I'd have to deduce in my mind
what level comment is this. It is very tedious and not very pleasant.

Another way that might help me would be to figure out the level of the
current comment. At least I'd be able to move down through the
comments without reading them and without trying to deduce its level
from the contents.

I'm using Jaws 17 and IE or Firefox.

Any advice would be appreciated!
Tony
