[nfbcs] Accessibility for Cannon Printers

Louis,

I don't doubt at all what you are saying, but since forms mode is a function that goes in and out of the virtual cursor mode, I thought it might be possible that this setting could affect how buttons are identified out of forms mode as well. It just seemed worth a try. In any case, by all means report this to JAWS support.

Best regards,

Steve

Thank you Steve.

The Cannon quick menu does not use a browser to display its buttons. For this reason, there is no form field when I use JAWS + v for the JAWS quick menu.

I can move from button to button using tab in JAWS. I can also move from button to button using the touch cursor. In both cases, JAWS cannot read the button labels where as NVDA can read the labels.

I will report this to Vispero.

Louis,

To help all of us, try the buttons for this printer with JAWS, but open the Quick Settings with JAWS key and V, and go down to Forms Mode. In that group there is an item called "Buttons Show" and there are a half a dozen different options. I was able to get to this parameter by typing the word button in the edit box. This may not affect the buttons in question, but it is worth a try. Also, whether you should have to or not, don't overlook the Touch Cursor. If you can't get JAWS to read these buttons and NVDA does, Please report this to Vispero so they know.

Thank you Tamer.

When I said the menus had unlabeled buttons, I was using JAWS 2019. NVDA can read those labels.

Thank you for sharing your printer experience.

Hello Louis, this is Tamer Zaid and I want to include that I previously owned a Cannon IP 110 Mobile printer and I experienced the same issues with the LCD screen and the menus it has. However, I just used it for printing purposes only and managed to utilize it independently. The main reason I purchased it is because it had airprint and I was able to connect it to my iPhone, iPad and Mac without any cables. So I did benefit from it, but again I didn’t like that the menus aren’t accessible and the LCD display was inaccessible as well. Again, I purchased this back in 2015 and I believe that there’s an updated version that uses the cloud which may be inaccessible as well. I purchased it from Amazon if you want to take a look. Hope that helps.
