[NFBCS] Is It Possible to Configure a New Laptop without Sighted Help

Hi Brad,
The keystrokes to start and stop narrator changed from windows key+enter to
ctrl+windows key+enter around win 10 build 1509 or 1603 if memory serves
correctly.
As far as starting narrator on earlier versions of windows prior to windows
10, yes it is slightly more difficult, however; it is quite doable without
vision.
On windows xp, the narrator started with windows key+u as soon as the
utility manager loaded.
On windows 7 64-bit versions, usually the narrator started as soon as you
pressed windows+U to bring up ease of access.
Where this was a little bit more unpredictable was when working with 32-bit
versions of win 7, where you would invoke ease of access with windows key+u
and then have to tab to the narrator button to start narrator or press
alt+n.
Of course, you can also do a windows 10 format and setup independently now
that narrator is included in the install media, and if I were in Nicole's
cenario I'd probably go that route and do a clean install of windows vs
simply configuring
the pre-installed windows with all the included junk from the manufacturer
including software trials and the like that you probably don't want in the
first place.
Just my thoughts, keep in mind that I am not a programmer but that I am
blind but work in computer support instead.

The keyboard command WindowsKey + CTRL + Enter, is for recent versions of
Windows 10.
For earlier versions of Windows 10, the command to turn Narrator on/off is
WindowsKey + Enter.
The command was changed to eliminate confusion and prevent unintentional
enabling of Narrator.

Prior to Windows 10, Narrator was not so easily enabled.
One had to first open the Windows Ease of Access Center, using WindowsKey +
U, followed by ALT N to start Narrator.
Then Ease of Access center had to be closed using ALT + F4.
Repeat the sequence to turn off Narrator.

It is a lot simpler with all versions of Windows 10.

Hi Nicole.
Yes it is possible to do this, after you power on the new laptop
ctrl+windows+enter will start narrator.
It surprises me that blind people are still asking about this, even though
the keystrokes to invoke narrator have changed over the years, I've been
doing this successfully since windows xp around 2006 or 2007.
Please feel free to contact me directly if I can be of any further
assistance.
Have fun!

If you buy a laptop with Windows already installed, is it
possible to get the laptop running without sighted help? Is there a way to
start narrator when the laptop first starts?
