[NFBCS] A dumb Thunderbird question

Hello,

I have thunderbird on a system running Debian Bullseye, Mate and orca. My problem is that Thunderbird keeps getting stuck on the body of a message 
and won't move off of it. I've looked at the keyboard shortcuts in the help menu, but none of them work.

Nobody else seems to be having dumb problems like this.
