Thanks Mick, I will give those command line tools a go.
As far as the other suggestion, I am an Android user and not an iPhone.  I also use Windows and I would prefer Windows tools, but Android would be handy as well if someone knew one.

There are a couple of command line tools that will do this. First is
mencoder:

mencoder.exe -ss 2 -oac copy -ovc copy input.flv -o output.flv

The most popular is ffmpeg:

ffmpeg -i input.flv -ss 2 -vcodec copy -acodec copy output.flv

Both of these examples trim off 2 seconds.

Quicktime Player may also work as a menu-driven alternative.
