Hi all,
Longtime member, first-time poster here. I’m excited (and a little nervous) to be returning to school and hoping some of you might have advice.
I was recently accepted into Colorado Christian University Online to pursue a B.S. in Computer Science. This is my third attempt at college, as I’ve had to withdraw previously due to chronic illnesses.
1. LaTeX on Windows
I’ve started learning LaTeX and find it a more accessible way to write papers—especially when paired with Zotero—even though my current assignments aren’t technical. I’m testing different editors for accessibility and Zotero integration. My main machine is a Windows 11 Pro mini PC, and I also have a Raspberry Pi running Arch Linux ARM.
So far, I’ve tried Overleaf, VS Code with LaTeX Workshop, and briefly TeXnicCenter. I like Overleaf, but wish its PDF viewer were more accessible. Both JAWS and NVDA repeat parts of lines when navigating the editor.
Question: What LaTeX editors do you use on Windows, and how accessible are they?
2. Relearning College-Level Math
I’ll be starting math and CS courses early next year, beginning with calculus. It’s been a long time since high school, and chronic illness has affected my memory and cognition.
Question: Can anyone recommend accessible resources for brushing up on math?
I’ll be doing everything online. I used to use a Perkins Brailler for math, but arthritis or lupus (still being diagnosed) makes that painful now.
Any tips for doing math, science, or programming fully online would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance, and apologies for the long post!
Best,
Lanie
