[NFBCS] Understanding Python

Hello,

I was very grateful when BITS made its Python coursework available;
however, as I try to prioritize my time, I want to make sure I’m
understanding the use case scenarios.

Right now I have a workflow that involves registration forms, authorization
requests, tracking those authorizations and service deliverables on a
spreadsheet, and disseminating reports and invoices with information from
the original authorization documents.

Gemini tells me Python would be overkill on account of the debugging
involved in making this an automated process. It recommended Microsoft’s
Power Automate.

Is this accurate? I know we could be working smarter. Yet, at 43, I’m
quickly approaching that phase in my life where I want to do a lot of
things and recognizing I have so many hours in a day. Do I really want to
become an entry level programmer on top of everything else I’m juggling?

And the answer is that I will commit to it if I can figure out other ways
Python could be profitable to me in terms of time, energy, and money. I
hear people talk about vibe coding, and as wonderful as that sounds, I
don’t want to go down that road if I don’t understand the mechanics of
programming. AI makes mistakes, and I want to be knowledgeable enough to be
able to fix things without relying solely on AI.

So, how are people using Python in their lives? What should I be
considering in the workflow outlined above? I am highly interested in
making my life easier, smoother, and automated where it makes sense, but
I’d love it if you could help put my questions in perspective.

Thanks in advance,

Joe
