[NFBCS] Website and browser question-clearing up information

Thanks all. I've learned some things from the discussion.
I don't recall getting any extensions to Chrome. Certainly not in the last couple weeks, and I'm pretty sure I've been to the knitpicks site recently.
I haven't tried it with Edge yet, but I will. It's useful to know I can get an ad-free version of a website with Edge, and I'll give that a try.
Meanwhile, I can get what I want with Firefox, so I'm OK. It just seems odd. Especially since other people, like Curtis, can get to knitpicks with Chrome. Maybe I'll clear my history and see if that helps.
Tracy

Subject: Re: [NFBCS] Website and browser question-clearing up information
Hey All,
While what Denise is saying about engines is correct, it isn't really helpful with Tracy's problem.
Quoting Tracy, "it gives me a network error and tells me to check the spelling." This is likely not an issue with how content is rendered, which would differ based on the engine, but a networking issue not being able to look up or connect to the domain knitpicks.com.
Since Tracy is able to connect to it from Firefox, I assume it isn't a problem with the host's DNS. I'm assuming that an extension is getting between Chrome and an authoritative DNS server. Likely extensions include DNS over HTTPS, which is designed to hide your network traffic patterns from your ISP, an ad blocker, which resolve ad serving hosts to localhost, a parental control extension, which does the same thing for adult sites, or a web based VPN.
It is possible that the reverse is true. That the system's DNS is somehow wonky, and firefox is getting around it by using an extension to talk to a valid DNS. This seems less likely, but certainly possible.
I hope this helps Tracy debug this.
Take Care,
Jim
