a los Ganadores del Programa de Becass del 2013

 

Baltimore, Maryland (7 de mayo del 2013): La Federación Nacional de Ciegos (NFB), la organización más antigua, más grande y más influyente de personas ciegas anunció hoy a los ganadores de su Programa de Becas del 2013, que otorga treinta becas cada año, a fín de reconocer los logros de los académicos ciegos.  Los ganadores se enumeran a continuación en orden alfabético con sus estados de origen y los objetivos de formación profesional:

 

·        Conrad Austen, Maryland: profesor de historia, e historiador en la discapacidad

·        Cody Bair, Colorado: Contabilista de impuestos, Contador Público Certificado (CPA)

·        Riki Burton, Kentucky: Maestro de los Ciegos y con Impedimentos Visuales

"Estos estudiantes representan la excelencia académica, y muchos de ellos son, sin duda, los futuros líderes de los ciegos de la nación", dijo el doctor Marc Maurer, presidente de la Federación Nacional de Ciegos. "Ellos están forjando un camino en disciplinas tan diversas como la ingeniería, teología, educación especializada, derecho y psiquiatría. En julio, cada ganador asistirá a la septuagésima tercera convención nacional anual de la Federación, en Orlando, Florída, donde el Comité de Becas pasará varios días conociendo a cada estudiante y luego decidirá qué beca (cuyo valor oscila entre $3.000 a $12.000) adjudicará a cada uno de ellos. Los ganadores de las becas entonces serán anunciados en el banquete de la convención de la Federación el sábado, 6 de julio.

Baltimore, Maryland (May 7, 2013): The National Federation of the Blind (NFB), the nation's oldest and largest organization of blind people, today announced the winners of its 2013 Scholarship Program, which awards thirty scholarships each year to recognize achievement by blind scholars.  The winners are listed below in alphabetical order with their home states and vocational goals:

·         Riki Burton, KY: Teacher of the blind and visually impaired

"These students represent academic excellence, and many of them are doubtless future leaders of this nation's blind," said Dr. Marc Maurer, president of the National Federation of the Blind.  "They are forging a path in disciplines as varied as engineering, theology, special education, law, and psychiatry.  They are proof of our conviction that we, the blind of this nation, can compete on terms of equality with our sighted peers, and we are very proud of their accomplishments."  

 

In July each winner will attend the NFB's seventy-third annual national convention in Orlando, Florida, where the Scholarship Committee will spend several days getting to know each student and then decide which scholarship (ranging in value from $3,000 to $12,000) to award each of them.  The scholarship winners will then be announced at the banquet of the NFB convention on Saturday, July 6.
