Subj: Fw: Take action for Obama's agenda - ASAP!
Sunrail is extremely important not only to blind people, but to people all
over Florida. Commissioner Linda Stewart has sent out the following
message with a list of senators to contact. We must do this TODAY! The vote takes
place on Wednesday. We ask for the support of our legislators; let's
support them when they ask for our support. Thank you.

Subject: Take action for Obama's agenda - ASAP!
Friend—
I am writing you today to ask you to support President Barack Obama’s
agenda.
One of the pillars of President Obama’s agenda is a new rail system that
will connect major cities all across the country. This initiative will be
on the scale of President Eisenhower’s interstate road system and will
create millions of new jobs. He has dedicated $8-billion in the stimulus
package for high-speed rail corridors alone.
“The time is right now for us to start thinking about high-speed rail as
an alternative to air transportation connecting all these cities,” Obama
said. “And think about what a great project that would be in terms of
rebuilding America.”[1]
Central Florida is at the top of the list for one of 11 high-speed rail
projects around the country. Before we can begin the President’s high-speed
rail project, the State Legislature must pass SunRail.
If SunRail fails this year in Tallahassee, Central Florida will lose
millions in Federal funding specifically set aside for commuter rail and billions
more for high-speed rail. On top of that, Florida would lose the
potential for over 250,000 new jobs and $8.8-billion in economic stimulus.[2]
“One mile of I-95 holds more traffic and costs $41 million. One mile of
high-speed rail costs $1 million. You can fit more people on a rail car and
you'll be taking 50 automobiles off the road. Rail uses 1/50th of the cost
(of a car) in terms of energy consumption.” --Vice President Joe Biden [3]
It's not too late! An important vote is coming up in Tallahassee on
Wednesday. Please support the Presidents agenda for rail projects and job
creation by contacting these Senators today and asking them to vote YES for
SunRail:

“We saw what happened in Minneapolis where a bridge collapsed and resulted
in tragedy. Not only do we need to rebuild our roads, our bridges, our
ports, our levies, our dams, but we also have to plan for the future. This is
the same example of turning crisis into opportunity. This should be a wake
up call for us. You go to Shanghai, China right now and they've got high
speed rail that puts our rail to shame.” –President Obama townhall in Ft.
Myers, FL [4]
Please email or call these Senators today and tell them to support
President Obama and vote YES for SunRail.
Thank you!
Linda Stewart
