I am glad to read such praise for the Florida affiliate. We have all worked
hard to make it the great organization that it is.

I agree that DBS is better than some state agencies, although it could
certainly stand some improvements. The number one reason I stand firm on the
idea that we need a commission in Florida is that only with a properly run
commission will we have the input and the voice that we need to keep the
agency on the right track.

We have done a lot to improve DBS in the past, and some of the progress we
have made has been lost, but the agency truly is better because of the input
of the NFBF. Had we been able to create the right kind of commission for the
blind years earlier, I don't believe we would have had quite the up-hill
climb to make and keep some of the positive changes.
