Subject: [Nfbf-l] Upcoming Event where a new coin is used for anything of
substance as far as I have always experienced!

> Since the state board is meeting later today, I thought I would write to
> let you know that the University of Florida Athletic Association has
> arranged to do a coin toss of our chapter's Louis Braille coin at the
> October 17, 2009, Homecoming game with Arkansas. The coin toss
> unfortunately will not be shown on tv. Apparently they never are. The
> radio commentary refers to the coin toss happening. The beneficiaries
> will be the stadium spectators. In addition to delivering the coin to the
> athletic association, I provided them with some NFB information and
> emailed pictures of the NFB logo and picture of the coin with hope that

> Our chapter's Meet the Blind event will be held Saturday, October 10,
> 2009, from 1pm to 4pm at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 4011 N.W. 34th
> Street, Gainesville, Florida. We are planning an informative program of
> Braille reading by a local high school student, and writing demonstration,
> guide dog puppy raisers and a demonstration by guide dog teams to answer
> questions about courtesy and etiquette. We will have entertainment and a
> drawing for a Publix gift card, and a bake sale and craft sale. The last
> portion of the program will be devoted to assistive technology
> demonstrations. This is perhaps our biggest and most challenging activity
> that we have planned for our small chapter. Our hope is that we will be
> able to inform the public in the spirit of the Meet the Blind concept and
> garner more members. Many thanks to Grant Downey for putting our
> announcement on NFB NEWSLINE, Florida Information Channel. I hope that
> you all will send positive thoughts and prayers our way as this has been a
> stressful time for us all.
