Thank your son for his service to his country.

Unfortunately, the Kindle itself will not play books that have the TTS
disabled.  You can listen to books with the PC version with plug in with
these books.  Right now I am listening to the Overton Window by Glenn Beck.
You can't speed the speech up as fast as I would like but I am able to
listen to it which is way cool.
