Subject: please join us for our 2011 flagdu meeting

Dear FLAGDU members and friends,

On behalf of the FLAGDU Board, I would like to invite you to our annual
seminar and meeting, which will be held on Sunday from 3 till 4:55 PM, in
the Sky Pier Room. We do not want to take up our meeting time with payment
of dues, so secretary Laurel Brown, treasurer Mike Lamb and I will be
collecting dues throughout the convention. Also, we'll be selling 5050
tickets for a dollar each or six for five. The drawing will be during the
banquet.

At our meeting, you will get an update on the National Association of Guide
Dog Users (NAGDU) education and advocacy hotline. It's going to be a
wonderful tool for so many.

We will also have a brainstorming sesssion about committees you would like
to see formed, and of course we hope many of you will volunteer to be on one
of those committees.

Guiding Eyes for the Blind and Southeastern will give reports during our
meeting.

We'll also talk about our upcoming national convention in Orlando, and how
FLAGDU members could perhaps help our guide dog using fellow NAGDU members
from across the country.

We will have elections for one Board member, as well as for treasurer and
vice president.

Many of you may have already seen my post about our very interesting
program, but for those who have not, I want to let you know we are having a
speaker who will talk about in-flight safety. This will take place around 4
PM. Peg Slater is a Delta flight attendant, and has a teaching background.
She has been at her job for 28 years. She's bringing things to pass around
and talk about, such as oxygen masks, and will talk about how we can get
them on our dogs in case of an emergency. Of course we'll have time for your
questions. This subject isn't one we like to think about, but Peg will give
us information we've not had before, which could possibly save our lives,
and those of our dogs! If you want to stay for a few minutes after the
meeting to talk with her, she welcomes this opportunity.

Of course there will be those great door prizes which your dog wants you to
win (smile.) And, if we get everyone's dues and contact info by five minutes
prior to the start of the meeting, I'll give you a hint and just say someone
will be very glad!

I'm looking forward to seeing all of you and your great pups in St.
Petersburg!

If you know others who would be interested in attending this meeting, please
pass this email along to them.

Sherrill O'Brien, President
Florida Association of Guide Dog Users
