Just passing this along. It sounds like a very uplifting broadcast in
remembrance of the tragedy of 9/11.

Subject: FW: Mormon Tabernacle Choir 9/11 Concert
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square with featured
guest narrator Tom Brokaw, long-time and highly respected news anchor, will
present a special memorial performance of Music and the Spoken Word for the
nation on Sunday, September 11, 2011. The special will focus on how
Americans have risen above the tragedy that shocked the nation and the world
a decade ago. The show points to the healing and strength that has come from
adversity intended to break the will of a people.
It is fitting that the Choir and Orchestra should air this commemoration
special since they were among the first to hold a memorial concert ten years
ago. On the evening of September 11, 2001, the Choir and Orchestra had
planned to perform for a group of financial executives gathered in Salt Lake
City for a conference. That concert was quickly shifted from the prepared
repertoire to a tribute to those who had lost their lives at the hands of
terrorists that day.
"As much sorrow and grief as came from 9/11," Mack Wilberg, music director
of the Choir, has said, "there have also come positives. The indomitable
American spirit turned a tragedy into a triumph of coming together as a
nation, caring and serving one another."
Brokaw, anchor of the NBC Nightly News at the time of the attacks, is one of
the most trusted and respected voices in broadcast journalism. He narrates
the special which includes six songs by the Choir and Orchestra and several
interviews with individuals who have risen above the negative experiences of
that day. The taping of the program was a tender moment for Brokaw:
"Shenandoah," one of the featured songs in the program, is one of his
favorite pieces of music.
The telecast, "9/11: Rising Above," will be broadcast Sunday, September 11
on - at last count - 750 radio, television and cable networks in the US and
Canada and on a combined total of over 2,000 all over the world. A number of
the stations, including many NBC affiliates, will be airing Music and the
Spoken Word for the first time. The originating stations for Music and the
Spoken Word including KSLTV and KSL Radio will air the special several times
during the day. BYU Broadcasting outlets-including BYUtv, BYUtv
International, KBYU Channel 11, Classical 89 KBYU-FM, BYU Radio (now also
carried as Channel 143 on SiriusXM Radio)-will carry a significant number of
airings and re-airings. Airtimes and station information is available at
www.musicandthespokenword.org or in local listings. The special will also be
streamed live on ksl.com and byuradio.org.
