How many older blind can afford computers and screenreaders or
smart phones? Yes, new technology will some day make Newsline in
its current form unnecessary, but it isn't here yet for all or
even most blind.

I'm replying to Kirk and Sheri's messages in this message.
Sheri,
There are many problems with newsline, and it is based on an old
idea. Newspapers eventually will cease to exist as we have known
them, because not as many people are reading them as in the past.
The internet is becoming more and more a part of our lives. IF
people don't have computers, it's their choice. The mainstream
world will not stand still because someone doesn't choose to keep
up!
Kirk,
Smart phones have evolved and have become more userfriendly,
while newsline has not.

purchasing
them. KH

Matt, while there are certainly problems with Newsline content,
many people
can't use or do not have computers and Newsline is their only
source for
information. There are also many other things on Newsline
besides the
Daytona News Journal.

In Volusia county, Newsline is a joke. Why should I advocate
for it? I am
signed up, but all it si good for is TV listings. I can get
that
information other ways now, and since I have Apple TV, I can
always get TV
that way.
We need to focus on other things besides this outdated stuff.
How about
better access to web pages such as NHL.com? How about more
access to
things everyone else uses?

An excellent observation. We have serious issues here in
Florida
regarding the blind which we need to address. For example, the
Director
of Blind Services has stated she does not intend to continue
funding NFB
Newsline. Hundreds of us use it daily and they belong to both
NFBF and
FCB as well as Blinded Veterans. We need to present a united
front to
preserve it. And that is only one of the pressing issues.

Hello all,
Since Dan didn't change the subject line of his plea for

same

passion
