Fellow convention enthusiasts,

The 2012 Convention of the National Federation of the Blind of Florida is
now part of our history.

So many special events took place that I am not even going to try to
enumerate them here. Some of you might want to post details on some of the
activities that meant the most to you.

At our elections, Dwight Sayer was returned to his position as Second Vice
President. Gloria Mills Hicks was re-elected as Treasurer. The two-Year
Board position which was vacated by Carlos Montas was won by Nallym Bravo.
The two-Year Board position which was vacated by Kimberly Morris was won by
Joe Minichiello. The remaining year of the two-Year Board position which was
vacated by Rick Brown was won by Holly Idler.

The convention voted overwhelmingly to direct the board to investigate the
plausibility of moving our convention to another time of year - one which
will be out of Hurricane Season, but will be not too close to the National
Convention.

I introduced a constitutional amendment to the convention, which would have
called for a secret ballot only if requested by a majority of the NFBF
members present and voting. Currently it only takes the request of one
member to trigger a secret ballot of the entire convention. The majority of
those present approved of the amendment, but we were a few votes short of
the two-thirds majority needed to pass the amendment, so the constitution
and our voting practices remain unchanged. So it goes.

I wish to thank all of our board members who remain on the board.
Congratulations to all of those who were elected or re-elected. To those who
have served on the board but have chosen not to remain or be re-elected.
Thank you very much for all of your hard work.

Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make this convention a success.
Thank you to everyone who took part.

Now, we look forward to making sure that Florida is well-represented at our
upcoming National Convention in Dallas.

NFB of Florida
