      Disability.gov Team Visits Philadelphia as Part of State-Focused Outreach
       
      As part of its ongoing state-focused public education and outreach efforts, the Disability.gov team kicked off the New Year by taking a road trip to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to meet with representatives of government agencies and nonprofit organizations that support people with disabilities living in the region. Representatives from Disability.gov met with the Institute on Disabilities at Temple University, the Philadelphia Office of the Disability Rights Network of Pennsylvania, the American Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania, The Free Library of Philadelphia (which also serves as the area’s Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped), the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority’s (SEPTA) Accessible Travel Center and Philabundance, the largest hunger relief organization in the region....

      Glaucoma Awareness Month & Resources for Free/Low-Cost Eye Exams & Eyeglasses
       
      Glaucoma affects more than 2 million Americans over the age of 40, though nearly half are unaware that they have this eye disease, since it presents no early symptoms. Glaucoma is the leading cause of preventable blindness and, once vision is lost, the damage is permanent. The National Eye Institute recommends regular annual exams for early detection. However, doing so can be challenging for people with disabilities and the elderly, as they are often on limited incomes.
