> Administration Releases New Rule Related to Disability Caregivers
> This week, the Obama administration released a new rule meant to provide better pay and working conditions to home care workers that provide assistance to people with disabilities. Beginning January 1, 2015, home care workers in 29 states will become eligible to earn the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour and overtime pay. Most workers are paid by their clients or through the Medicaid program. The U.S. Department of Labor estimates the rule will cost $6.8 million per year over a 10-year period, affecting state-run Medicaid programs across the country.
