Dear Jim,

Thank you so very much for your post. (It is below after some other messages
I took off the MediaReq list.)

I apologize for my last post, I suppose I was to excited about the point of
Microsoft supporting Windows 7 for 10 years, and did not pay proper
attention to the rest of the message.

Actually, for a person as non - Tecky as myself, still using an old XP
System and JAWS 11, I should keep out of posting messages about technical
issues, and once again, I apologize to the List.

I will post these 2 messages that came after the first, which I posted,
which had they been posted in a more timely thread; I would not have
posted the first message.

Here are those messages in this Thread.

Hi Alan,

There is an update on the Jaws and Win 10 saga.
I've posted it below. Trevor.

Hi Deon and Group,

I kind of figured that your post is more accurate than John's is. Those
bureaucrats working for Blind oriented agencies don't always get it
right. AS a former beta tester for JAWS, I knew it would be extremely
unlikely that they would sit on their hands and effectively say: 'woe is
me. This is too complex to do anything right away.'

I do know as mentioned in a private message before that NVDA is already
working diligently on Windows 10 support and they have a separate list
for testers who want to test drive the system.

Another message in the thread

2018? Man I hope not. I have read that FS is already working with scrips for
Win10. Win 10 will be launching in July and is ready to beta test the
platform. I have also been told that NVDA is already script working Win 10,
as well as Window Eyes and Serotec.
Hopefully win 8 users will be able to jump on board with Win 10 after a few
releases of bug fixes and the likes. I have a win 8 machine that I can't
wait to be able to upgrade to 10. I absolutely hate win 8. I also have a win
7 machine, and win 10 will have to be very good for me to upgrade my win 7
desktop. Windows 10 will be a free upgrade for all windows 8 and 7 users,
and all future Windows OS upgrades will remain free of charge. Quite a
switch from Microsoft. I guess they feel the pressure from the Apple market.
Thanks for the info.

Deon

Well, my NFB friends, this will be my last post on technical issues, as I
really do not know what I am talking about, only going on what I thought
reliable posts.

And Thanks very much again Jim, it is great to have a person with your
technical expertise on the NFB - Florida List group.

With Best Regards,

God Bless,

Alan

Dear Alan and all,

while I cannot disclose a release date for when JAWS will begin supporting
Windows 10 I can say this. If you look back at the history of when JAWS
would support the newest operating system from Microsoft you will see that
there has been support either from the very beginning when the new operating
system is released or very soon after. So, what I am really saying here is
that it isn't going to take until 2018 for JAWS to support Windows 10. I am
sure you will be very surprised as to how soon JAWS will support the new
Windows 10 operating system.

Thank you,
Jim Ellsworth

for at least ten years

Dear Friends,
I just got this off another list.
It is good to know, so folks do not feel compelled to jump to Windows 10.
What a relief to know!

I asked blind services here in Florida about Windows 10 and they told me
there are of course bugs, going to be bugs, things not working right and
that they have talked with Microsoft and they were told that Microsoft will

be supporting Windows 7 for at least ten years, so not to worry about
upgrading, since the state just bought new computers for thousands of blind
in Florida all Windows 7. According to the blind service specialist they
say Jaws won't even have scripts for Windows 10 for at least three years.
So the earliest anyone using Jaws could upgrade shouldn't be until 2018.
