Siren, Samaritan help police find blind man.
By Dan Wallach .
Beaumont, Texas
Police helped a blind man find his way home early today through thick fog
after he called police to report he was lost and disoriented.
Police received the call at 4:53 a.m. from the man, who said he missed his
bus transfer and began to try to walk home. After leaving the downtown
Henry Dannenbaum bus transfer station, he wandered until he called 911.
Officers were able to find his general location in the area of Sherman and
Brooklyn streets in the Charlton Pollard neighborhood and began a search
while the man continued to speak with dispatchers, said Sargent Rob Flores
.
Officers sounded the siren on their patrol car and asked the man to try to
give directions based on the sound.
A good Samaritan walking his dog early in the morning came across the man
and he called dispatch, staying with the man until officers arrived.
Officers drove the lost man to his home in the north end of Beaumont.
