I jus sent this to Paul Martinez for inclusion in the Newsletter, but it was

Subject: happenings for NFBCF for October

The Central Florida chapter is very busy.

Regarding membership, we have grown by 5 members during the last several
months. I am excited to report that we are geting parents of blind children
involved as well. We hope to be able to forward the work of starting a
National Organization of Parents of Blind Children of Florida division.

One of our hard-working chapter members, Florence wWalsh has temporarily (I
hope) moved from our chapter due to losing her place of residence. I hope
somehow she can come back soon! We miss her.

We have lots of plans for Meet The Blind month and White Cane and Guide Dog
awareness. We are working with our friends at Lighthouse Central Florida,
The Blinded Veterans' Association and Greater Orlando Council of the Blind
to organize a panel discussion called
"Navigating Our Community with Dignity | A Panel Discussion." This will
take place Thursday October 13 and will involve blind members of all groups
plus noted transportation advocates and officials from throughout the
Central Florida community. Following the discussion, we will go out and
display our travel abilities as we cross the streets in front of the Orlando
Public Library where the event is to be held. We are very much looking
forward to this event.

On Monday October 17th, the NFB Central Florida chapter is holding a
fund-raiser/awareness event at Five Guys in Orlando. Hopefully, we will not
only raise money for our chapter, but spread the word about being able to
live the lives we want.

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations
of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind
people and our dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what
holds you back.
