NFB OF PALM BEACH DECEMBER NEWSLETTER

Let's recite the NFB Pledge:

I pledge to participate actively in the efforts of the National Federation
of the Blind to achieve equality, opportunity, and security for the blind;
to support the policies and programs of the Federation; and to abide by its
constitution.

The mission of the National Federation of the Blind is to achieve widespread
emotional acceptance and intellectual understanding that the real problem of
blindness is not the loss of eyesight but the misconceptions and lack of
information which exist. We do this by bringing blind people together to
share successes, to support each other in times of failure, and to create
imaginative solutions.

Happy Holidays Federation Family! The National Federation of the Blind Palm
Beach Chapter is honored to have you at our monthly meeting on Saturday
December 9th at our new location, Duffy's 11935 Southern Blvd., Royal Palm
Beach, FL from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. During this meeting, we will have our
Holiday party before the New Year. We are now accepting membership dues for
2018 with an annual membership for only $10. With love, hope, and
determination, we will continue to build the federation!

Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much!

Helen Keller

of our members. We would like for everyone to work together for the purpose
written in our pledge and philosophy.

Participating actively in the National Federation of the Blind, through
support of the programs and policies of the Federation, is defined by
fundraising; legislation; having at least one representative from your
chapter attending conference calls; volunteering at State and national
Conventions; and effective communication within our Affiliate

Happy Birthday or Happy Anniversary from the NFB Palm Beach Chapter if you
are celebrating any special occasions this month. Enjoy each moment like it
is your last and many blessings!

MEETINGS

The Great Gathering-In will begin Monday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. at the
Holiday Inn Capitol (Capitol Ballroom) and will adjourn promptly at 7:00
p.m. The Great Gathering-In serves as our very exciting opening session to
Washington Seminar. The energy in the room is like no other. Over 500
members of the NFB come together to learn about and advocate for legislative
initiatives that will improve the lives of blind Americans. Please join us
to cast off the perception of incapacity that is too often reinforced by bad
public policies that serve to relegate blind Americans to second class
citizenship.

Legislative appointments should be made for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
in the Senate and House office buildings. A meeting for NFB members to
review the legislative progress and provide guidance will occur on Wednesday
evening.

PROGRAM

The Washington Seminar is an annual event of the National Federation of the
Blind to introduce the agenda of blind Americans--the priority issues
requiring congressional attention over the coming year. The issues are
selected from official positions of the Federation and may address concerns
in the following areas: relevant civil rights issues; educational programs
and services; rehabilitation of the blind for competitive employment; the
operation of vending facilities by blind persons on public property;
specialized library services for the blind; the organization and funding of
federal programs; Social Security and Supplemental Income programs; and
other timely topics. Approximately three legislative initiatives are chosen
for priority attention during the Washington Seminar.
