Dear All,

The simulation of Dining in the Dark is being touted as an
educational experience to teach diners about what it is like to be blind.
Here is the sort of education the world is getting about the capacity of the
blind as seen through the blindfold of a frequent sighted participant!

"You'll wonder, as I did, whether the food will taste the same. That is, if
you can even get a morsel onto the fork and into your mouth without dropping
it in your lap! It's a challenge you won't soon forget."

Let's begin by realizing this blogger is talking about you
and me! We, the blind, taste food differently, are challenged by eating,
less capable of getting the food into our mouths, and more apt to drop food
in our laps! And the participants will not soon forget how challenging it is
to eat without eyesight! If we are challenged by eating because we cannot
find our mouths and, when we do finally get the remaining morsels to our
lips after dropping most of it in our laps, how can we find our way around
the community and be competent employees?

Fraternally yours,

Marion Gwizdala
