[Nfbf-l] Issue on faith committees

	I wanted to chime in here to share the amazing experience we had at
my spiritual community last night. I have been a member of a community
called Unity based in Lee Summit, Mo. for the past 38 years. For the past 25
years, we have held an event on the second Thursday of September known as
"World Day of Prayer". Last night, we had a group that consisted of
Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, Native Americans, and Wiccans
all join together to pray. I opened the service with the song "One Power",
the refrain of which says

Call It God, call it Spirit, call It Jesus, call It Lord;
Call It Buddha, Bahá'u'lláh, Hasham or Heaven's Door;
It's mohammed, Its your mind, It's your Soul or its your sign,
It's the Universe It's music, Mother Earth or Father Time
Whatever name you give It, It's all One Power, can you see?
It's the Power of the Love in you and me!

And even if you do not believe in that One Power, I am certain there is love
within you and this is sufficient!

Fraternally yours,
Marion

Hello:
I completely agree with you Roberta. I have read the messages and stayed
quiet on this topic, but the NFB is an organization which focuses, or,
should focus on advocasy, independence, and training for blind individuals.
religion is generally a hot topic among groups, and while I am definitely a
proponent of tolerance between all different types and kinds of beliefs, I
don't believe it is the NFB's place to favor one faith over the other.
Another lister stated previously that when groups like this form, they
generally concentrate on Christianity. I have found this also to be true. I
myself am a believer in Christian beliefs, but unless I am asked
specifically, I try to keep those teachings out of my NFB dealings. If the
affiliate started a group to promote all faiths, it would surely end up with

a lot of disagreement because try as we all might, not everyone has the same

level of tolerance for differences. That is just how the world works.
Just my 2 cents. Have a wonderful day!
