[NFBF-L] NFBF Deaf Blind meeting April 11 Sunday 5pm discussion of Cogswell Macy Act

Greetings NFBF Deaf Blind Division members and supporters,
Our NFBF Deaf Blind Division will conduct a general meeting by Zoom on Sunday afternoon April 11, 2021 @5pm - 6pm.

This meeting will discuss the congressional legislation filed as the Cogswell Macy Act. A general description of this legislation is summarized in an article attached at the end of this email notice. At our next Sunday meeting, we are blessed to have Cathy Miller, former NFB Louisiana President and long time leader of the Deaf Blind advocacy community. Cathy will explain the benefits of this legislation and some needed amendments. Her primary changes needed to the CMA concern the elimination of the "braille  presumption" currently applicable to education of blind, deaf, and deaf blind students under the IDEA  and ADA legislation now applicable to education of blind students. We may also be joined in our discussion by Stephanie Flynt sflynt at nfb.org<mailto:sflynt at nfb.org>.
Stephanie has been working on amending this beneficial legislation at our NFB national office, and may provide explanation of how we can assist the NFB national office by contacting our Florida congressional leaders. .
