Dear Federation Family,
It is with a profoundly heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of one of our cherished members, Judy Gibbons. This evening, I received word of her departure, and like many of you, I am filled with sorrow as we process this loss. Judy was more than a member of the federation, she was a friend, a mentor, and a guiding presence within our chapter. She will be deeply missed.
Judy was a long-standing and dedicated member of our movement. Her commitment and positive spirit were evident in everything she did. Whether we were gathered for a meeting, a convention, or simply navigating the daily responsibilities of life, Judy’s presence brought a sense of warmth, encouragement, and purpose. Her legacy will undoubtedly remain with us in all our future endeavors, and her spirit will continue to shine through in the values and mission of our organization.
What made Judy truly special was not only her dedication to our chapter, but also her remarkable strength, optimism, and deep devotion to her family. I vividly remember when I first began working with her over a decade ago. At that time, Judy had embarked on a journey to further her education, embracing technology with determination and enthusiasm so she could reach her academic goals. She was close to completing her studies, and through that journey, she became an inspiring example to her children and all who knew her, and she always sated That it is never too late to pursue growth, knowledge, and self-improvement.
Judy taught us that resilience, love, and a thirst for learning can transcend any obstacle. Her legacy serves as a testament to the power of perseverance and the importance of setting an example for future generations.
As we close out this evening, I ask that we all keep Judy’s family and loved ones in our thoughts and prayers. May they find comfort in the beautiful memories they shared with her and in the knowledge that her impact will live on in so many hearts.
Rest in peace, Judy. Your absence will be deeply felt, but your memory will live on in each of us. You will never be forgotten.
With deepest sympathy,
Jorge Hernandez, President
Miami-Dade Chapter
National Federation of the Blind of Florida
