Jerilyn Higgins leads our discussion on independence!

Good morning, Sunrise and Shine Family!

Sometimes when I'm turning over ideas for great discussion topics on Sunrise
and Shine with NFB-NEWSLINER, the perfect idea comes at the perfect time.
That's how tomorrow mornings topic came about. A wonderful friend, Jerilyn
Higgins and I were speaking recently about her Independence Fair workshop
taking place during the National Federation of the Blind of Florida's
upcoming annual convention in Altamonte Springs, when I surprised her with a
request. I asked her to be our special guest on our Thursday, September 25th
"Rise and Shine Zoom call. She gladly said, "yes". We will all be thrilled
that she is going to take time out of her extremely busy schedule to tell us
about her life as a teacher, and a rehabilitation instructor for people who
are blind and low vision. She'll also tell us about her new book, "Look
Who's in the Kitchen". This wonderful and groundbreaking cookbook and
training guide is written especially for those of us wanting to get into the
kitchen and make tasty things happen. Sometimes in life, we want to do
things but don't think we can, Jerilyn will share her thoughts about why
working in the kitchen is such a doable thing!

Tomorrows call will give us all a chance to dig into our thoughts on what
independence means to us. I know we all have areas of independence we'd like
to improve upon and hopefully we won't be shy about sharing what those are
as well.

I hope you will make time to join us tomorrow morning, it feels good to have
Sunrise and Shine back on a normal schedule of second and forth Thursdays of
each month beginning at 9:00 AM (EST).

If you haven't been to one of our calls before, joining us at 9:00 AM for
coffee or tea will give you a chance to find out what you've been missing.
We always take time for welcoming new guest speakers and participants and
for lots of warmth and laughter.

Most of us have become pretty familiar with attending meetings using the
Zoom platform over the past few years and in fact, we've been using Zoom
since we launched Rise and Shine way back on April 16th2020. If you're not
used to using Zoom or if it's still giving you difficulties, don't give up
just yet. You can access the meeting by clicking on he below listed web
link, by using the one tap mobile feature or by dialing the phone number
provided and entering the access code when prompted.

The regulars on our call are always warm and welcoming and are thrilled to
see new faces.

Hope to have you with us this Thursday morning, see below for the Zoom info.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me before the
call. Check the bottom of this email for the Zoom call-in instructions.
