To my Federation Family,

As we conclude the year 2025, it is both appropriate and meaningful to
reflect upon our accomplishments, not only as individuals, but as members of
the Florida affiliate and as leaders within our movement. We may take pride
in our collective and individual successes while also thoughtfully
acknowledging those areas where our aspirations remain unrealized. As
members of the National Federation of the Blind, we must always remember
that we serve as a source of hope and opportunity for those who have not yet
found the Federation.

Each new year brings renewed intentions and opportunities for growth. While
establishing goals is essential, their fulfillment requires sustained
dedication and active engagement. As we enter 2026, I hope to see increased
collective participation in our movement and a renewed commitment to
strengthening our unity as blind people. I reaffirm my personal commitment
to supporting the growth of our affiliate by becoming more actively engaged
in the development and expansion of national programs within Florida.
Additionally, I pledge to continue leading by example through my ongoing
service to the National Federation of the Blind as we work collectively to
achieve equality, security, and opportunity for all blind people.

I was honored to serve on the affiliate board for ten years in various
capacities. Through the mentorship of past leaders, the leadership training
provided by our national office, and the encouragement of countless
individuals who believed in my potential to grow professionally as a blind
person, I gained invaluable knowledge and experience. Their time,
dedication, and thoughtful discussions regarding our philosophy profoundly
shaped my understanding of the Federation and its mission. The lessons
imparted to me during that time were truly invaluable.

I remain deeply committed to honoring that investment by paying it forward.
I pledge to mentor others and to share the philosophy and knowledge that
were so generously entrusted to me. The organization has given me much, and
the most meaningful way I can give back is by continuing the work and
advancing the legacy established by those who came before us.

Two years ago, I stepped down from the affiliate board and offered my full
support to our newly elected president, Camille Tate. Today, I continue to
serve at the pleasure of the president. It has been especially gratifying to
witness my former mentee develop into an exceptional leader for both our
affiliate and our organization. Through perseverance, shared vision, and
determination, our collective aspirations are becoming reality. I look
forward to the future and to the potential opportunity of once again serving
alongside my former mentee on the affiliate board.

The National Federation of the Blind advances the lives of its members and
all blind people. We affirm that blindness is not the characteristic that
defines one's potential or future. Each day, we raise expectations,
recognizing that low expectations create unnecessary barriers between blind
people and their goals. Our collective strength, determination, and
diversity continue to propel the aspirations of all blind people forward.

Let's go build the National Federation of the Blind of Florida.

With sincere appreciation and continued commitment,

Jorge Hernandez

President, Miami-Dade Chapter
