Greetings Florida:
The National Federation of the Blind of Florida is excited to begin
programming to bring Parents of Blind Children and Blind Parents into our
affiliate! We are also creating a drive to bring younger members into our
affiliate as well . We will have an Accessible Gaming Room on Saturday and
Sunday afternoon during our upcoming state convention. Logistics are being
firmed up and will be published at a later date. However, we will need
volunteers to staff the room. If you are interested in volunteering in this
room, there are certain procedures that must be followed, per policy of the
National Federation of the Blind. This is mandatory and no exceptions will
be granted.
* All volunteers must undergo a background check (conducted by the
National Federation of the Blind). This background check is required and no
person may volunteer in the gaming room if they have not had the background
check completed. Further, prior background checks conducted by any other
entity will not be accepted. You must go through our National Organization's
background check process.
* All volunteers must receive and sign acknowledgement of our Youth
Participation Program Policy, which will be emailed to all volunteers. This
acknowledgement must be received by us prior to state convention.
* Any volunteer in the gaming room must complete a Youth Participation
Program training module. The link for that will be shared once we have the
sign-up sheet posted. This is a short training module (approximately two
hours). This training module must be completed and the certificate submitted
to us before approval can be granted to volunteer in the gaming room.
* This program is geared towards engagement with youths under the age
of 18-21, so open slots will be first preference for them.
Additional information will be provided as we get closer to finalizing our
convention agenda.
