In no way do I see the author's guild going after NLS. Now the moms and dads

of the world need to be shaking in their night clothes for reading bedtime
stories to their children. This is a public performance and the authors of
the world must be compensated.

Anthony not everyone reads braille unfortunately and what about the victor
stream or text books that are in accessible format you maybe one of the
lucky ones who was taught braille but as you know we are working on changing
and educating the public on braille. I lost my vision as an adult and I
didn't have the options of learning braille unless I take braille from the
Hadley School. I would prefer to learn by a teacher and not on my own.

You guys are taking this way out of proportion.

The TalkingBook program has been around since the 30's, at least as far as I
know.

Now with automation coming into play, the TalkingBook program will need to
change with the times.

And, their is always Braille.

The trouble is that the Authors Guild, emboldened by its success with
the Kindle, will turn it attention to any device that has text to
speech including things like computers. So even through the Kindle was
far from perfect in the area of accessibility the president that the
Authors Guild is setting endangers the whole talking book program as
well as accessible computers and other devices.
